Chances for Children is hosting the Maricopa Fit Family Challenge
June 22, 2009
PHOENIX, AZ - To bring families together for fitness and fun, Chances for Children is hosting the Maricopa Fit Family Challenge this August, to be concluded with the Maricopa Mile and 5k on September 5th at Pacana Park.
Maricopa families can register for the free program and then walk, run and train together each week as they increase their fitness levels and spend time with one another. They will then show off their new physique and bond with the races in September.
The program will take place from Sat., August 1 through Sat., Sept 5. Participants will meet from 6 to 7 a.m. every Saturday and from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Wednesday for group workouts at Pacana Park in Maricopa.
The team coach will lead a group run, walk or fitness activity, with all participant’s activity tracked by Nike Sportbands. Families that register will receive two sport bands to use to track their progress. The family with the most participation at the end of the program will win an award.
All participants will receive pre and post BMI and body fat analysis, a Fit Family Challenge t-shirt, a pre and post challenge fitness assessment, a free injury prevention screening from Endurance Rehab, weekly group runs and stretching analysis.
Chances for Children is a not for profit organization that helps provide at-risk kids an opportunity for a positive change through health and fitness.
The team is lead by Susan Loken an esteemed USATF Certified Coach and the program director for Chances for Children, and David Allison, USATF Certified Coach and a competitive middle distance and distance runner for 30 years.
Loken is a three-time USA Masters champion and two-time Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier. Loken’s inspirational spirit pushed more than 300 runners and walkers to success during the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Half and Full Marathon the last two years.
“Our goal is to share with the community the passion for health, fitness, and recreation that Team Chances embodies,” Loken says. “Most importantly, funds that are raised will continue to provide new chances to individuals in Maricopa.”
To become an official member, each member must make a fully refundable deposit toward their Nike Sportband and sign a hold harmless waiver from Chances for Children.
If official members attend eight to ten training events, they receive free entry into the Maricopa Mile and 5K on Sat., September 5.
Pacana Park is located at 19000 N. Porter Road in Maricopa.
