ABC 15 Phoenix: Why 600 Guadalupe children are getting new Nikes
Jose Garica couldn't wait to test out his new Nike running shoes Wednesday morning. Garica was among 600 students at Frank Elementary School in Guadalupe who were given a new pair of shoes from Chances for Children, a non profit organization. "Our goal is to stomp out obesity in kids by giving opportunities to be active," said Janell Bolen, Executive Director for Chances for Children. Read the full story

Arizona Republic: Area athletes help inspire youths to run, be active
Three of Ahwatukee's most active residents have been working to provide area children with opportunities to get moving. Timothy and Janell Bolen, along with Susan Loken, are marathoners, triathletes and record holders. Loken competed with the nation's best female runners in April at the Olympic trials. Timothy has been ranked as an All-America triathlete eight times. Janell has participated in world triathlon championships. But their most recent focus has been helping area schoolchildren hit the ground running.

3TV: Kids run in memory of classmate
This Sunday the streets of Phoenix will be packed with spectators cheering on the runners participating in the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon and Half Marathon. But that's not the only event drawing a big crowd. Some Valley kids are also putting on their running shoes this weekend to run the same path as the adults, but kids-style of course.
